Causes of Toilet Clogs
- Flushing foreign objects down the toilet bowl outlet
- Throwing paper products other than toilet paper into the toilet bowl
- Children’s toys
- Wipes – Be especially careful of wipes as they can cause clogs downstream
- Toilet flusher malfunction – resulting in insufficient water being flushed down the drain
Avoiding Clogged Toilet Bowls
- Don’t throw any paper products, other than toilet paper, into the toilet bowl
- Keep the toilet lid closed when the toile is not in use
- Keep kid’s toys out of the bathroom except at bath-time
Trying to Unclog a Clogged Toilet
- Try to unclog the bowl with a toilet plunger
- Try a chemical clog buster such as Drano. However, be careful not to use on a regular basis as it will cause pipe corrosion
- Try using a plumbing snake (auger) if you have one. Make sure it is the type made for use in toilet bowls or it could scratch the porcelain
